If you're playing on your phone, FPS is something that tells you how smoothly the game runs. The higher the number, the better the experience, no tearing, no delayed responses. Ideally you want at least 60 FPS, but with more demanding games your phone may struggle with as little as 30 FPS, which can be noticeable. And if it drops below 20? That's just hell.
So how do you find out how your phone is doing? Here are a few ways.
1) Built-in tools from manufacturers, do you already have it on your phone?
Before you start downloading apps, check if your phone can't do something similar on its own. Many manufacturers have a game mode where you can view FPS directly in the game.
- Samsung: If you have a newer model, try Game Booster. Open the game, pull up the Game Launcher, and enable FPS display in the settings.
- OnePlus: It has Game Space, where you just need to turn on performance monitoring.
- Xiaomi: Activate Performance Monitor in Developer Options (you must enable it in settings first).
- Asus ROG, Lenovo Legion and other gaming phones: These phones have an FPS counter built directly into the software.
If your phone doesn't have anything like that, then third-party apps are the way to go!

2) Apps that show you FPS in any game
Sometimes you just need an app that will display your FPS while you're playing. Here are the best ones:
- FPS Meter on Screen Real-time: A professional tool that will show you not only FPS, but also processor and battery load.
- Real-Time display FPS Meter: Simple appthat does exactly what you need.
- And more…
How to do it? Just download one of these apps from Google Play, grant it the necessary permissions (sometimes allowing screen overlays) and then just launch the game. The FPS will appear as a number somewhere on the screen.
3) Want to go hardcore? Connect your phone to your PC!
If none of the apps work for you and you really want accurate measurements, you can connect your phone to your computer and use the Android developer tools.
How to do it?
- Turn on Developer Options (go to Settings → About phone → tap “Build number” 7 times).
- Enable USB debugging.
- Connect your phone to your PC and use tools like Android GPU Profiler.
This method is a little more complicated, but it gives you ultra accurate data about your device's performance.
