A new type of virus is attacking owners of Android phones or tablets. Although it is a typical Trojan horse, it is much more sophisticated and insidious than regular malware. It is called RatOn and its goal is your money. You can download it completely unintentionally with a seemingly safe application.
This virus was discovered completely by accident, when Threat Fabric was searching for other malware related to payment theft via NFC. She discovered a new Trojan that, unlike other viruses of this type, is not based on existing code, but was created from scratch. And that makes it even more dangerous. Moreover, it was found that does not hide in just one application, but it was identified in more of them. So more users can be affected.
Once you download it to your mobile or tablet, the virus starts search for access data. And if it gets into your online banking, it can trigger automatic money transfers (ATS). You will lose your finances without even noticing. In addition, it has been found that hackers use the so-called overlay attack. This makes the victim feel that they are on the website of a real bank or in its banking application. Entering the access data is then completely natural and you will not be suspicious.
The good news is that this virus should should not have been in the store Google Play. But if you download applications from other sources, you never know what might be hiding in them. And it could be this RatOn that is desperately seeking your money. The basic defense is therefore to download from verified application stores, have an antivirus installed on your mobile or tablet, and carefully check where you enter your access data. In the case of Google Play also make sure you have the function active Google Play Protect.
