QNAP® Systems, Inc., a leading innovator in computing, networking, and storage solutions, today launched QuTS hero h6.0 Beta, the latest ZFS-based NAS operating system that offers a new level of resilience and intelligence for enterprises.
“Due to the sharp increase in data volume and transformacand business operations through AI, businesses need storage that is secure, intelligent, and future-proof,” said Tim Lin, Product Manager at QNAP. “The QuTS hero h6.0 demonstrates why QNAP remains the most comprehensive NAS solution for the AI era – combining resilience, cybersecurity, and intelligent data management in one unified platform.”
Key new features in QuTS hero h6.0 Beta✱
- High Availability (HA) with two NAS
Two NAS devices form an active-passive HA cluster using High Availability Manager. h6.0 supports even more models and applications – over 90% of services are now HA-ready – and provides cost-effective redundancy to ensure business continuity. - Fixed images
The Immutable Snapshots feature, available on all QuTS hero models, blocks data from being modified or deleted during a protection period, ensuring data integrity and rapid recovery even after a ransomware attack. - KMIP key management
As a KMIP client, QNAP NAS integrates with the company's internal centralized key management servers (KMS) to manage encryption keys in a unified manner. Keys are stored remotely and applied automatically, reducing the risk of manual intervention and ensuring compliance with FIPS 140-3 for enterprise-grade security. - Improved system security
QuTS hero h6.0 adds multiple layers of protection to protect system integrity and prevent intrusion.
• FIDO2 Passkeys They allow password-less authentication and are phishing-resistant, providing stronger account protection.
• Secure Boot It uses hardware-level protection to verify firmware integrity at startup, blocking unverified code and ensuring that every startup occurs from a trusted state.
• Ransomware Guard (coming soon) adds behavioral detection and isolation to Malware Remover, identifies anomalies, logs suspicious activity, and neutralizes threats in real-time.
• Secure IP Access (coming soon) introduces granular access controls at the IP address level that reduce network threat risk and enforce contextual access policies. - Qtier for QuTS hero
QNAP's popular Qtier storage tiering technology is now supported on QuTS hero NAS systems. With flexible manual tiering control, users can place data on the ultra fast SSDs or high-capacity HDDs – achieving the ideal balance between performance, capacity and cost-effectiveness. Ideal for businesses running large and mixed workloads – such as file servers, virtual machines or video production. - Kernel-mode SMB service with encryption
By running SMB services in kernel mode, QuTS hero achieves significant improvements in throughput and IOPS while supporting SMB encryption for secure file transfers. - Simplified management and access control
• QNAP ID SSO makes it easier to log in to the NAS and cloudservices using single sign-on.
• Fibre Channel NPIV allows multiple virtual WWPNs on a single FC port for more efficient management of multi-tenant environments.
• ACL 2.0 introduces a newly designed permissions management engine that provides significantly faster operations, smoother management, and more reliable performance for large directories.
• AMIZcloud Monitoring provides centralized cloudEmail management for HA groups and displays cluster status, latency, and alerts. - Artificial intelligence and automation
• Local LLM in Qsirch introduces RAG search based on locally deployed open-source large-scale language models (such as DeepSeek, Gemma, Phi, and Mistral) on a GPU-powered NAS. It enables fast and private document summarization and semantic search with full data sovereignty.
• MCP Assistant allows administrators to manage NAS using natural language commands through tools like Claude Desktop, VS Code, Telegram, or n8n, simplifying daily operations with AI-based automation.
