Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with a more affordable model after September launch varianta in the form of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Although it does not carry the "S" or "Elite" designation, its parameters show that it is aiming very high in the chipset hierarchy. Let's see how it compares to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

The biggest surprise at Snapdragon 8 Gen5 is the preservation of architecture Orion. The chip uses the same custom CPU core as the Elite models, not the standard Cortex cores. The configuration of two “prime” cores and six performance cores is also identical. The main difference lies in the clock speeds. Namely 3,8 GHz versus 4,6 GHz for Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5This means lower peak performance, but still enough power for both normal and more demanding tasks.

However, the differences are greater in graphics performance. The chip uses modern Adreno architecture with all the latest technologies. So ray tracing, mesh shading or Game Super Resolution, but it is a slightly truncated version. In terms of performance, it ranks roughly 20% off Elite Gen 5 and slightly below last year's Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, it remains more than sufficient for today's games.

It's interesting, that Qualcomm kept the same Hexagon AI core and the almost identical 20-bit Triple AI ISP as Elite versionThis means that artificial intelligence, a camera and modern connectivity (Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, XPAN) are practically at the top level. The only minor difference is the modem X80 instead of X85, which is, however, negligible in practice.

The main difference between the two chips really lies primarily in the graphics part and lower CPU clock speeds. Snapdragon 8 Gen5 However, it clearly outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and is approaching last year's Snapdragon 8 Elite, which makes it a very attractive option. It is expected to appear in upper mid-range phones (priced around $799), where it will offer a good price-performance ratio.
