Google has decided to redesign its Google News app again. This time it's not about adapting the Material 3 Expressive style, fortunately we've already done that. This time Google is focusing directly on the content of conversations, cutting out the content of those that contain links or videos. But Google did it so clumsily that most users won't be happy.

When someone tells you through Google News will send, for example video link z YouTube, in the conversation you will see a preview of the video, its URL address and also the page name, description and domain. So you will get it all at once all essential informationmace, you can quickly decide whether you want to click on the video or whether you're not interested at all. Google has now decided to simplify everything, but perhaps it's more of a disadvantage.

After updating the Google Messages app, the message will display video preview only, and often smaller than before (to fit the length of the message). If the message does not contain text from the sender, you won't see anything else except for the preview. Which is quite annoying. The description of the page with the link will disappear completely and the new thing will be the favicon added to the domain, which is pretty useless.

Everything fits into Google's idea of cleaner app appearance and removing distracting elements. Which was successful, but in practice it will bring many complications. Users will lose a lot of important informationmacand will be forced to click on the video to find out. Fortunately, this can be changed. If you want to continue to see the URLs of the videos you send after the redesign, just go to Google News Settings, then select the option Automatic previews and deactivate the item here "Show all thumbnails" or "Show only link thumbnails".

The good news is that Google intends to bring back the mode to Messages. picture in picture, so you will be able to play the received video and at the same time write back to the sender. All these functions are currently in beta version Google Messages (version 20251121_00_RC01), but they may be released soon.
