Google has made an unexpected and unwelcome change to the Play Store - it has removed the button to uninstall system app updates. Instead, users now have to go through a more complicated process via the system Settings.

In the past, it was possible to Google Play simply roll back system applications to their original versions by clicking the "Uninstall" button. But that's no longer the case. Now, only the "Open" button appears for system applications - the option to uninstall updates has completely disappeared.

The change affects a wide range of devices and versions Google Play - from version 49.1.32-31 to 49.2.25-31System apps that don't normally appear in the main app list, such as Android Auto or Pixel Camera Services, are also affected.

If you don't want to uninstall system app update due to bugs, unwanted interface changes, or removed features, you must now:

  1. Open Settings on Android
  2. Go to section Application
  3. Find the application and open its details
  4. Select an option Uninstall updates

It is less clear, and above all unnecessarily complicated.

Interestingly, this change comes shortly after Google, on the contrary, made it easier to remotely uninstall applications - v Google Play Now you can see all the devices where the app is installed and you can remove it with one click. But system apps? Those will force you to click extra.
