Google is quietly rolling out a new feature to Pixel users, introducing a new shortcut to the Pixel Launcher that makes launching apps faster. Instead of having to tap an app icon in the results list, you can now just press Enter while typing the app name.
As soon as the user starts typing the name of an application they have installed, the button on the keyboard changes from the classic Google search on arrow or EnterIf the app is recognized, just press Enter and the app will open immediately – no need to tap again.
Similar behavior was in Pixel Launcher previously available, but Google it removed in 2022It briefly tested its return in 2023, but the feature never made it to a wider audience. Now, it seems Google has finally decided to widespread implementation this small but very useful change.
The update is apparently performed on the server side, without having to update the Pixel Launcher app. Some users are already seeing the new feature, while others (including Pixel 10 Pro XL with Android 16 QPR2) do not have it available yet. This corresponds to the usual style gradual deployment of features at Google.
Even though it is a minor adjustment, significantly improves comfort when operating with one handThis allows users to get used to a new way of launching applications that is faster and more efficient.
