The CES 2026 trade fair brought a lot of technological innovations. Many of the world's leading manufacturers, from Google to Motorola to LG, took turns with their new products. And IKEA also took its share of fame here. The Swedish furniture and accessories manufacturer has long focused on smart devices and various accessories. At the end of 2025, it introduced over 20 new sensors, controllers, and lights, and now it has decided to show them directly. But even though these are interesting pieces, they will be more of an annoyance to Google Home users.
IKEA is trying to offer universal smart devices that most smart home enthusiasts can use. That's why it supports the standard Matter and you will usually have no problem connecting and controlling them. This also applies to Samsung fans and their SmartThings, because Matter communicates with this platform without any problems. However, it is completely different in the case of Google and his Google Home.
As 9to5google.com found out, many users Google Home have already enthusiastically purchased new IKEA products and connected them to their smart home managed via Google Home. And then came the bitter disappointment. Various types of complaints about malfunctions are starting to multiply on the Reddit forum. Although IKEA promises compatibility with various smart home applications, the Google Home app often doesn't know how to handle them. It can't work properly, especially with devices containing buttons, typically with smart controllers.
The solution is control directly via the IKEA app, but if you have Google Home, you'd probably rather have everything work in it. This isn't the first time that some devices aren't compatible, even though they should theoretically work. And we can only hope that Google will fix these annoying situations and improve its app.
