Xiaomi introduced a new HyperOS 3 superstructure based on Android 16 in the fall of last year. It first made it available on its latest Xiaomi 17 mobile phones and then gradually began to make it available to owners of older mobile phones, tablets, TVs or smartwatches. It's not over yet, but there are already speculations about the upcoming successor - HyperOS 4. This new superstructure will probably be based on Android 17, but not all Xiaomi devices will receive it.
Google released Android 16 in early summer 2025, but it took mobile device manufacturers several months to implement the news and changes into their superstructures and provide them to users. Samsung was the first to do it with the superstructure One UI 8Later, Xiaomi, vivo, OnePlus and others followed. In the meantime, however, Google had already managed to release first quarterly update of Android 16 i second quarterly updateIt brought a number of other new features, but so far they are only available to Pixel phone owners.
Samsung took a rather unusual step and One UI 9 based on Android 17 plans to release soon One UI 8.5 based on the first quarterly update of Android 16. And it is apparently already developing its next build XiaomiThere is talk of HyperOS 4, which unfortunately will probably skip all quarterly updates and wait until Android 17.
The Chinese manufacturer has a rather specific strategy when it comes to releasing updates. It typically releases updates in accordance with specific kernels, which can further improve the performance and efficiency of individual mobile phones/tablets. For example, models Redmi Note 12 ended up on HyperOS 2.2 (Android 15), while newer models of the same series received HyperOS 3. The upcoming HyperOS 4 superstructure could therefore only target the latest Xiaomi, POCO and Redmi mobile phones.
Some phones could thus miss out on the next update based on Android 17 and may not receive this operating system at all. From Xiaomi's point of view, they cannot offer advanced AI models in Xiaomi HyperConnect and from a certain point of view, Android 17 doesn't even deserve it. It could bring a whole range of new features based not only on artificial intelligence.
So far it seems that Android 17 will not receive the following equipment:
- LITTLE M7 Pro 5G
- LITTLE M6 Pro 4G
- LITTLE X6 5G
- REDMI Note 14 5G
- REDMI Note 13 Pro 4G/5G
- REDMI Note 13 Pro+ 5G
- REDEME 13
- REDEEM 14C
- REDMI Pad Pro
- REDMI Pad SE (varia(8.7)
On the other hand, Android 17 and HyperOS 4 should be available on mobile phones Xiaomi 13 and later, Redmi Note 14 and later, POCO F6 and later. But it won't happen until the fall of this year. And since Google Android 17 is still in development, it is not clear what all the features it will bring. And which of them Xiaomi will directly adopt for its users.
