The smartphone market is starting to feel like a place where weaker brands are disappearing or at least quietly retreating from the premium phone category. What's even more interesting is that Sony, one of the longest-running "outsiders", is once again sending a signal that it's still counting on mobile phones. It did so not through a press release, but through something that usually gives away more than marketing - the GSMA IMEI database.
New model codes have appeared in the IMEI database, which look like a preparation minilittle by little two new phones from Sony. Items have appeared here before PM-1521-BV, PM-1522-BV a PM-1523-BV, which are related to the future Sony Xperia 1 VIIINow one of them (PM-1521-BV) is returning and other similar codes are being added – PM-1520-BV a PM-1525-BV.
This is important mainly from a practical point of view. Similar clusters of numbers usually mean more variant of one model (regions, configurations, carriers). In other words, it doesn't look like Sony is just testing something sideways. It feels more like real preparation for launch.
The US market is in the background
In addition to the 1520 series (probably Xperia 1 VIII), the database also includes items from the series 1530which fits the expected Sony Xperia 10 VIIIAnd here the long-term pattern repeats itself: from the available data, it doesn't look like any variasomething that would indicate targeting the American marketBut this doesn't automatically mean a problem for Europe - it's more of a confirmation that Sony continues to play the game where its mobiles are concerned. Xperia they sell more stably.
It's not that "there are some numbers somewhere". The important thing is that even at a time when many brands are limiting the portfolio, Sony continues to prepare flagship and more affordable model. That's exactly the combination that keeps the ecosystem alive - one phone for diehard fans and one for the wider audience. And while we don't know anything about the specs yet, this type of footprint in the databases usually means that development and certification are in full swing.
