Compact gaming tablets are almost an endangered species these days. Everyone is dealing with handhelds, gaming phones, and cloud gaming, but anyone who has ever tried to play on a mobile device for a long time knows that a larger display and better cooling can do wonders. That's why I was intrigued that Lenovo is once again announcing the return of the Legion Y700 series - and this time it looks like it's no longer just a distant concept.

The first mentions appeared on the Chinese network Weibo and it is clear that Lenovo It focuses on a simple, clean design. One rear camera and below it circular RGB elementwhich clearly says "this is a game piece"The text also includes the designation "AI Tablet", but honestly – in 2026 it's almost a mandatory marketing label that doesn't reveal anything in itself.

According to informationmacThe new Lenovo Legion Y700 is said to have a Digital Chat Station from the leaker 8,8 ″ LCD display with 3K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. This is a combination that makes sense. 8,8″ is still comfortable to hold in your hands, 165 Hz will be appreciated in fast-paced games (shooters, racing, rhythm games), where the smoothness is immediately visible.

Great performance and long endurance

The biggest attraction is supposed to be the chip from Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5If it works out, performance will be the main argument for giving a tablet a chance instead of a powerful phone. This is mentioned 9mAh battery and the only one 50Mpx rear camera – which is exactly the compromise that I personally consider reasonable for a gaming tablet (I prefer performance, endurance and stable images to the hunt for more cameras).

The timing is heading towards March and Lenovo is currently targeting mainly China. And this needs to be taken as significant news. Lenovo may address global availability later, or not at all. But if it really arrives in a combination of 8,8″ 3K/165Hz + top chip, it will be one of the few tablets that has a chance to convince even people who have otherwise avoided gaming tablets for a long time.
