If you like smaller phones but don't want to compromise on photography, this news will surely interest you. According to a big leak from a Chinese leaker, Xiaomi is currently testing a prototype of a compact 6,3" mobile phone, which could ultimately be the expected Xiaomi 18 Pro. And now the main thing. Behind the scenes, a camera configuration is allegedly being worked out, which makes almost no sense on paper for smaller phones - two 200MPx sensors.

The leak says that Xiaomi tries a photoshoot with dual 200MPx sensor. In the compact design of smaller mobile phones, this is technically challenging, simply because of the large space required for modules, cooling and optics. If this combination were to make it to the final device, it could have a very significant impact on the quality of the photos. They would offer more faithful preserving details and especially more advanced zoom without the typical compromises of smaller phones.

I know from my own experience that with smaller flagship phones you often hit the limit precisely in the zoom. Either they lack a proper periscope telephoto lens, or they have a telephoto lens that quickly loses quality in poor light. That's why the current speculation that one of those 200MPx modules should be periscopic telephoto lens.

Xiaomi continues to focus on two sizes

The leak also fits into the strategy that Xiaomi has implemented for the series Xiaomi 17. So offer two flagships varianty, one smaller and one larger. Xiaomi 18 Pro It is expected to continue as a successor to small flagship phones with the same ~6,3″ format, but with the ambition to offer features that are normally reserved for the larger versions. Ultra/Max.

If Xiaomi really puts it in a 6,3″ phone 200MPx periscope (and possibly a second 200MP sensor for the main camera), this could be exactly the type of device that breaks the traditional dilemma of either a good-looking phone or the best camera. Here, for the first time, both could be available.

It is fair to add that this is early information.macez testing and final specifications may change. But this is one of the most interesting directions for compact flagship phones in recent years. And I'm personally very curious to see if Xiaomi will go for it and stir up the stagnant waters of mobile photography a little again.
