Although Google has officially abandoned naming after sweets for the 10th generation of Android, it remains loyal to it internally. So after Android 16, which is called Baklava, it is baking us Android 17 with the code name Cinnamon Bun. This not only keeps the alphabetical order, but also perhaps hints to us that the new Android will have different layers that developers will skillfully intertwine and literally bake into each other.
First Android beta 17 appeared in February and was soon followed by a second version. At the same time, another Android Canary, and so we are starting to have a pretty accurate idea of what features Android 17 will offer. They will fully enter Pixels, for other brands, implementation depends on the manufacturers. And what are the most interesting news we can expect?
Bubbles for every application
One of the most notable changes to the user interface is the evolution of the feature BubblesThis has so far been strictly limited to communication platforms, but Android 17 opens it up to the entire ecosystem.
The second beta version has indicated support for virtually any application. Users will be able to work in floating windowswithout having to leave the primary application. In addition, the feature will be added on tablets and foldable phones taskbar, which will make it easier to manage open bubbles. And multitasking it will move to a completely different level.
Limited access to contacts
Privacy is getting major improvements in Android 17. Google has prepared a system interface Contacts Picker, which will prevent all contacts from being shared across the board with apps requesting access. Users will be able to grant these apps access to only selected contacts, while others will remain hidden from them.

Handoff API
Google also responds to user requests for feature integration Task Continuity. He prepared a new tool Handoff API (apparently inspired by Applem) with which developers can describe the exact state of the application and then transfer it to another Android device. In practice, this will work in such a way that, for example, you will immediately see an email written or a video watched on your tablet as a suggestion in the main panel of your mobile phone. And you can continue your work smoothly.
VVC codec
Codec support VVC (H.266), which will be the successor to the popular HEVC, will bring up to 50% greater compression efficiency while maintaining identical visual quality. This not only ensures that the quality does not deteriorate when working, but also saves storage space and reduces the volume of transferred data.
Eye Dropper
Native Eye Dropper will act as a kind of eyedropper. It will allow you to precisely select colors from any pixel on the screen and transfer it elsewhere without having to ask for permission to record the screen. This will reduce risk, increase convenience, and speed up your work.
Loudness Management
New API for intelligent volume normalization Loudness Management will reduce unpleasant jumps in audio outputs. When switching between different sources, there will be no sudden changes and listening will be more comfortable.
Access to one-time passwords
Google is taking more action against phishing and malware in Android 17. Access to one-time passwords will therefore change. Applications that are not the default message managers or assistants will see the content of the SMS with the code with a delay of up to three hours. This will make it harder for attackers to try to trick you into accessing online banking, for example. Delay will prevent misuse of verification codes.
Android 17 release schedule
Google will probably stick to the previously set trend and the final stable version Android 17 will be released in the second quarter of 2026. In February, it released two beta versions, during the spring will offer a test build and attempt to achieve full platform stability. In June the final build could then be released.
The first one to reach the device pixel, will be followed by Google's partners - Xiaomi, Motorola, and then Xiaomi or OnePlus.
