Although we are still many months away from the official premiere, the first renders of the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro flagship have begun to circulate in the technology world. The leaked images indicate that the Chinese giant does not intend to compromise on its ambitious vision of the ultimate camera phone, but at the same time is preparing to define a new category of device: the AI smartphone.
According to the current visuals, Xiaomi 18 Pro will retain its iconic and robust "island" of cameras, which dominates the upper part of the back. The assembly should again contain a trio of top-notch sensors, next to which we find the already typical Xiaomi secondary display.
President of Xiaomi Group, Lu Weibing, has previously indicated that the company's goal is to transform this element from a design accessory to full-featured control panelWhile in previous generations it served more as a viewfinder for selfies or an information panel for notifications, in Xiaomi 18 Pro is expected deeper integration into the system.
The display could act as a standalone interface for quick interactions, widgets, or advanced teleprompter-like features without having to activate the main display panel. However, we don't know the details yet, and the renders don't reveal them either.
Dedicated AI button
The fundamental innovation is to be new physical hardware button on the side of the device, intended exclusively for artificial intelligence. However, it is not just a abbreviation for chatbotsLeaks talk about deep system integration within the HyperOS superstructure, which will allow:
- Instant activation of AI tools based on what the user is currently doing on the phone.
- Quick smart home management and connection with Xiaomi SU series electric cars.
- Users will be able to set their own functions assigned to different types of presses (short, long, double).
This move clearly shows Xiaomi's strategy - to make the phone central hub, where a physical control eliminates the need for complex menu navigation in the UI.
On the hardware side, the Xiaomi 18 Pro has the ambition to break benchmark records again. The heart of the device will likely be the next generation of Qualcomm's flagship chipset - there is speculation about the name Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.
The key parameter is the transition to 2nm production process in factories TSMCThis advanced technology promises a dramatic increase in energy efficiency and higher computing power, which is necessary for local processing of demanding AI models directly on the device.
On the front, we expect a large flat panel with a resolution of 1,5K, which will offer the ideal balance between display finesse and battery saving. More details will likely leak soon and the launch is expected in September this year.
