Android has a decent set of features against spam calls, but many people don't know about them. The basics are Google's Phone app and a few settings that take a minute. The rest is about verifying a specific number — and knowing who called — before you call back.
Settings worth turning on
In the Phone app, open Settings and find Caller ID & spam. Turn on Show Caller ID & spam and Filter spam calls. Your phone will then either flag suspicious calls with a red warning or send them straight to your spam list without ringing. Pixels also have Screen Call, which will answer the call for you and transcribe what the caller is saying — with telemarketers, this can be clear in two sentences.

Why is that not enough?
Google's database is mainly based on reports from users around the world. The Czech telemarketing center, which will start calling this morning, will get into it with a delay of several days. In the meantime, it calls you with a clean slate. Community databases respond faster because the entry is added by the first person to whom the number called. If you find ten comments with the same description for the number, you have the answer before anyone else picks up the phone.

Scams that repeat themselves
Most attacks have the same structure: urgency, authority, and a request for a code or access code. A fake bank employee who is “preventing a fraudulent transaction.” The alleged police investigating your account. Tech support who needs to install a remote access application. When the call came
Don't call back an unknown foreign number, especially if it rang once. Verify the number, and if it's spam, keep the entry in your call log and set Block and report spam.
